Memorial Day Campout

Looking east acros the Bonneville Salt Flats.
We headed out toward Wendover, Nevada then headed south into the desert, praying for nice weather.  At least we did not have snow like they had at our house in Clearfield.  Will winter never end?

A view of our campsite.  As you can see, the desert floor is very green.

A cold hike!  Ethan has decided to "pose" for pictures these days.

Some of the desert flowers in bloom.

Here we are on a four wheel drive excursion, lots of different vehicles.  Our almost 14 year old grandson is on the orange KTM bike and his best friend is on the green bike.  They really put a lot of miles on those things and are getting to be fantastic riders!

We spotted this unit while we were out.  Think we will stick with the motorhome with the memory foam on the bed and the indoor plumbing!

Looking for a geocache named "Eye of Sauron"

Found it!

We wondered if this was also found by some other RVers because of the rubber gloves - blackwater dumping?

Fritz and Ethan are good friends!

Is five years old too young to geocache?  Evidently not!

Nicolas is holding the first Travel Bug we have found in a cache.  We actually found 2 this day.  This one we are keeping to drop in a cache on Antelope Island on the Great Salt Lake on our next geocache adventure.  The other one we found had a goal to tour Nevada, so we dropped it in a cache a few miles down the road.  It was fun to actually find and log the Travel Bugs.  For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, go to geocache.com and learn about a fun sport.  And yes, it was as cold as Nicolas looks in this picture!

We cut our trip short one day as 5 days of rain, cold, and wind was enough.  But it was still a fun Memorial Day weekend.

Recovering

Trying to get in a short nap.  Seems like Fritz and Simba had the same idea.  As you can see, the brace is temporarily off.  It is officially off, and in the trash can, on Tuesday - Yippeeeeeeee!!

Ethan turns 5! With his mom, Wendy's oldest, Rachel.

Grandma celebrating with her boy just a few days after left rotator cuff surgery.

Birthday dinner - hotdogs.
Well, I am a little behind in my blog, as usual.  Ethan, #4 of our 7 grandkids, turned 5 on April 13, the day after I had my left rotator cuff surgery. (I am so glad God only gave me two shoulders!)

Here is Ethan getting ready to dye Easter Eggs.  Not sure why we need googles for this project, but it makes a cute picture!

Nicolas, our first grandchild, will be 14 in June!

Don't you just love the look of the freshly colored eggs!

After the egg were done, we had a piano concert.  Ethan is taking lessons and has already learned several songs by heart.

Easter Egg hunt at church - you won't lose your bucket if you keep it on your head!
I love it when the daffodils and tulips bloom!  These are in our front yard.

Easter morning.

You are never too old for an Easter basket!

Grandpa and his buddy!
I have been recovering from my shoulder sugery.  It is frustrating, as I have so many things I need to do to get the house ready to rent out and the motorhome ready for travel, but I am trying to be patient.  We did finally get the new tile floor done in the kitchen and have already had some interest in renting the house from the Armed Forces rental site on line, so progress is being made!

We spent Mother's Day weekend camping with Rachel, Stacy, Nicolas, & Ethan at Delle, Utah.  It is about 40 miles west of Toole, Utah on I-80; basically a wide spot in the road with a gas station.  But lots of ATV trails.  It was great for me to get out of the house,  this recovering stuff is really getting old.  The weekend started out beautiful, but ended with some excitement!  Well, just look at the pictures.......

Looking east towards Grantsville, Utah

Ethan looks like quite the professional rider!!

Nicolas with his new KTM 200.

Nicolas' first ride on the new bike.

Bones, Nicolas' dog, found this bottle in the desert!

Ethan and Grandpa.

Rachel got a new ATV.

Brothers in their matching Fox jerseys.

Two worn out dogs.
Okay, that was the fun part!!  Some rain had been predicted for saturday night into sunday morning.  Monday morning, when we had planned to leave, it had been raining non-stop for about 30 hours, the desert clay had turned to glue, and it was still raining!
Rachel and Stacy are stuck - good thing he has 4-wheel drive.

Oops, we are stuck too, but Stacy and his 4- wheel drive to the rescue!  Stacy was able to pull us out of this hole.

Three hours later even the 4-wheel drive couldn't help with this one and we had to call the to truck!
It coninued to pour throughout all of this.  The tow truck driver was great and got us out after much manuveuring, slipping an sliding.  The only damage to the motorhome was the tube under the rig that holds the dump hose got smashed!! A very cheap fix.  We made it home in one very muddy piece and can't wait to go out to the west desert again for the Memorial Day weekend - with no rain?!

In The Beginning

It is so great to have a friend parked in her motorhome just  across the next wash in the Quartzsite desert that can help you set up a blog.  Thanks Diane!!  So now we have started a blog.  Hopefully, you will find it fun and entertaing.

We left Utah on Dec 27, pointed to motorhome to Lake Mittry outside of Yuma Arizona, where we met up with out friends in the Escapee group "Boo

mers".  Spent a cold midnight around the campfire bringing in 2011!  The next day was beautiful, we had a potluck that featured "trash can turkey" .
